KSI European Championships Finland 2013 

KSI EUROPEAN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
8th-11th May 2013

SKF ENGLAND 12 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze


Four Members of Kimura Shukokai Karate Kent, based in Maidstone, Kent are are back from a very successful European Karate Open Championships which was held in Helsinki, Finland from the 8th-11th May 2013. Sensei Chris Simpson 3rd Dan also traveled with the Squad as a KSI International referee.

Katie Simpson currently ranked 2nd in the World is now KSI European Ladies Kata Champion! If that was not enough she also added another 2 Gold medals to the tally in the Ladies Team Kumite and the Senior Kata Team events. Determined to make her mark in her 7th European championship out of 13 caps for England Katie competed with great style and strength to take the 3 Golds. The eliminations were held on day 1 and with 4 events to compete in Katie did not let it hold her back. "I am now the KSI European Champion and I am so proud of this achievement. I have worked harder than ever in the preparation for this event and I was ready to make my mark. All of the hard work has all paid off and it feels great".

Jack Cutler aged 15 was the current KSI European Junior Kumite Champion and he has retained his European title for the second year running, winning in style. Jack lives in Leeds, Maidstone and took on Europe one by one, he was unlucky to miss out on a placing in last years World championships in America but this year he was determined not to be beaten. "I was determined to defend my European title from 2011 and I was not going to let anyone stand in my way" Jack was also part of the team Kata trio winning Gold along with his team mates Adam and Christine in the Cadet Team Kata event.

Christine Bordean aged 14 is now the KSI European Junior Kumite Champion. Christine who lives in Lenham, Maidstone with her mother and brother and a student at Swadelands School competed brilliantly. Christine took Gold in the Girls Kumite event and was also was part of the gold winning cadet team Kata trio with Adam and Jack. Christine was determined and dedicated in the lead up to the championships and attended as many training sessions as she could as well as doing extra work in the gym. "I feel really proud of my medals, I have been training hard with the England squad and my Instructors and I felt prepared to go for Gold! I feel really proud to be English and part of Kent Karate!"


 Adam Axford 1st Dan, KSI European Champion, 1x Gold and 1x Bronze

 

Adam Axford aged 14 is now part of the winning European Championship junior Kata team. Adam of Parkwood, Maidstone and a student at the New Line Learning Academy competed exceptionally with his fellow team mates to take Gold in the team Kata event. Adam trained hard in the lead up and was ready to take on Europe, he took the Bronze medal in the individual Kumite which was a great effort from one of the youngest competitors in the event. "I have many experiences from the European Championships which I will remember for a long time. I am proud of my team and getting a Gold medal in an International Competition".

Christine, Adam and Jack together won the Junior Team Kata event, Sensei Katie Simpson says, "The three cadets have put many hours into their team Kata and their hard work payed off on the day, an amazing effort well done"

RUNS 26 MILES ON EASTER SUNDAY! 

WELL DONE TO ALL OF THE KENT KARATE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD MEMBERS WHO COMPLETED THEIR LEG OF THE 26 MILE TAG MARATHON, ALONG THE A20 ON SUNDAY 31ST MARCH 2013. IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY WITH SOME SNOW, BUT SPIRITS WERE HIGH AND WE FINISHED THE RUN!
